I hope my message find you doing well as we head into fall time. Once again I want to thank everyone who has continued to pray, volunteer time, offer words of encouragement or send in contributions.
I have felt so much support as I have responded to our funding crisis. I have the pleasure to report the crisis is over! The mission of the Red Bird Center is not at risk. All the changes are moving us toward a greater ability to respond effectively to the community need.
"ITS TIME TO TELL OUR STORIES OF SUCCESS"
Red Bird Center's Anniversary Dinner
October 25th 2008 at 3pm
We will be celebrating our 11 year anniversary as well as giving out the Tom King award to one of our outstanding volunteers. Thunder Nation Singers will be sharing the songs of the people. Everyone will be going home with something special. Our circle is strong as the Ancestors bless.
A new development is the Auction has been rescheduled to the same date (Oct 25th at 12 noon.) It will be over in 30 minutes. So we will also have a chance to celebrate a successful Auction result.(see www.UCAuctionServices.com) I welcome help spreading the word about the Auction.
If you want to come early and pray around the fire we will be in Ceremony and you are welcome to join us. I do invite your prayers during the Auction whether from home or with us at the Center. As I have stated in past correspondence part of the proceeds from the Auction will help fund the mission. I decided to go to Auction to bring all the potential buyers in the room. The mission of the Center is too sacred and serious to be held up. I want to reduce my overhead and allow most of our funding to go back into the work and not a facility. I am looking for a facility close to the Akron/Canton area with some acreage. One that is donated would be preferred. Or of course someone can buy the current facility and donated it back to the Center. That works too. (smile) The goal in all of the changes is to bring more security and support to the work.
We have also just received a grant from the Kalliopeia Foundation for the Wounded Bear program. I am so excited. Kalliopeia has blessed us with a wonderful opportunity to carry this healing message to those who need it the most. This is the second grant award in the last year. The first was from The East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church for our programs serving Native Families through the holiday season in 2007. As the momentum continues to build I feel the wind under my wings. It feels wonderful!
Please join us on October 25th (RSVP by October 18th)
Blessings, Shianne
